The Athens Clarke Classic Center Expansion added significant new program space to one of Georgia’s premier conference, convention, and performing arts venues. Located in downtown Athens, the project strengthens the Classic Center’s role as a regional destination for conferences, exhibitions, and cultural events. The expansion introduced approximately 134,000 square feet of new space, including additional performance halls, ballroom facilities, and exhibition areas. These new spaces were carefully integrated with the existing complex to improve operational flow and provide greater flexibility for hosting large events. A signature feature of the project is a large central atrium that connects the expanded facilities and serves as a dramatic gathering space for events, receptions, and public activities. A pedestrian bridge links the expansion to the nearby Foundry building, strengthening the connection between the Classic Center complex and the surrounding downtown environment. GVSA led a series of community outreach sessions with Athens stakeholders to shape the design direction of the project. Input from these discussions helped inform the building program and ensured that the expansion reflected the priorities of the community while supporting the facility’s long-term growth.
