Barge Road Tower is a renovation of a senior affordable housing community located in Atlanta’s Greenbriar district. The project focused on revitalizing an existing residential tower containing 129 one-bedroom apartments designed specifically for senior residents. GVSA provided architectural services for the renovation, which modernized residential units and upgraded shared spaces throughout the building while preserving long-term affordability. Interior improvements included new kitchen appliances, plumbing fixtures, cabinetry, flooring, and updated finishes designed to create comfortable and accessible living environments. Accessibility improvements were implemented throughout the building to better support aging residents. These upgrades included improvements to circulation areas, bathrooms, and building systems to meet current accessibility standards and enhance resident safety. The renovation also expanded and enhanced community amenities that support resident wellness and social interaction. Updated spaces include a community room, computer room, fitness room, community garden, and outdoor patio areas designed for gatherings and recreational activities. Exterior improvements included the addition of a new porte cochere at the building entrance, creating a more welcoming arrival experience while improving accessibility for residents and visitors. Through thoughtful upgrades and modernized infrastructure, the project extends the life of this important affordable housing community while improving the overall living experience for its senior residents.
