Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Hotel and Convention Center is a major component of the Airport City mixed-use development, introducing hospitality, conference, office, and retail uses directly adjacent to the Domestic Terminal. The first phase includes a full-service Hilton hotel with up to 440 keys, a grand atrium lobby, convention and banquet spaces, restaurants, and an integrated corporate office wing designed to support both business and travel-related activity as well as a separate stand alone parking deck to gain the full benefit of a long-span parking facility suporting the development of the entire development. These major components, hotel, office and parking facility are all connected via pedestrian bridges enabling a quick means of aerial access in addition to at-grade access. Positioned only steps from the terminal, the development strengthens connectivity between airport operations and hospitality amenities while supporting increased demand for meeting and event space within one of the world’s busiest airports. The project is designed as a simple dual loaded corridor but with epressions of motion suggested in the simple block form by suttle axial twist in the floor plates and exterior facade. These suttle facade changes convey a feeling of almost weightless movement experienced when a stack of loose sheet papers encounter a sudden gust of wind - as the passing of a plane. Subsequent phases anticipate additional boutique hotels, and office buildings, that will contribute to a larger mixed-use district supporting long-term growth at Hartsfield-Jackson. Working as Associate Architect to John Portman & Associates, GVSA provided design assistance and documentation support that helped advance the project’s integration within the broader airport campus. The development reflects GVSA’s experience contributing to complex, multi-phase projects that combine hospitality, workplace, and infrastructure uses within highly coordinated environments.
