Buildt in 1982, James Allen, Jr. Place (formerly Hightower Manor) is an eight-story affordable housing renovation designed to modernize senior living while preserving long-term housing stability within the Harland Terrace neighborhood of Atlanta. The project involved a comprehensive rehabilitation of 129 residential units, including updated layouts, new exterior envelope improvements, and upgraded building systems to enhance comfort, durability, and energy performance. Interior improvements focused on creating welcoming, functional living environments supported by updated amenity spaces designed to foster community and improve quality of life for residents. The renovation strengthens the long-term viability of this important housing resource while providing modernized residences that support accessibility, safety, and everyday convenience such as allocating space for healtcare services. In 2024, the renovation earned the Redevelopment Award of Excellence from the National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies.
